If you love something, you never want to let it go — right, Hearties? Season 7 of When Calls the Heart isn't coming back until 2020, but fans will still able to get their Hope Valley fix with the show's brand-new spinoff, When Hope Calls. Set to premiere on August 30 on Hallmark Movies Now, the new series "embodies the same heartfelt themes of community, family and faith" that When Calls the Heart fans know and love, according to Michelle Vicary, Executive Vice President of Programming and Network Publicity at Crown Media Family Networks.
While the show is completely separate from WCTH — No crossover news ... yet! — the Hallmark Channel is confident that it will be "another series that viewers are sure to treasure." Tune in on August 30 and see for yourself. But first, get all the details about When Hope Calls that we know so far.
What is the plot of When Hope Calls?
Actually, Hearties were first introduced to the idea of When Hope Calls during the 2018 When Calls the Heart Christmas special, The Greatest Christmas Blessing. Although short and sweet, Hearties met sisters Grace (played by Jocelyn Hudon) and Lillian (played by Morgan Kohan) who were separated as orphans and later reunited as adult women. In When Hope Calls, they leave Hope Valley to open an orphanage in the 1916 Western town of Brookfield. While details about the rest of the cast is few and far between, When Calls the Heart executive producer Alfonso Moreno confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the show is equal parts heart and humor: "Lillian and Grace are spirited, beautiful women – and will catch the eye of at least a couple of men in town. These sisters will ultimately navigate through all the range of emotions that come with budding romance."
An exclusive clip for Entertainment Tonight confirms that the sisters will find love or, well, try. During the first episode, Lillian and Mountie Gabriel (played by RJ Hatanaka) hit it off with playful banter and flirty glances. Don't worry, it looks like Grace finds a match of her own: rancher-turned-veterinarian, Chuck (played by Greg Hovanessian).
Between the romance and their budding business, the two will experience their fair share of drama throughout the season. While running their orphanage, the sister will encounter some resistance from local residents who aren't very welcoming, according to Moreno.
Who is in the cast of When Hope Calls?
When Calls the Heart fans will recognize Rosemary and Leland Coutler (played by Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith) in the premiere episode, but otherwise the When Hope Calls cast is full of fresh faces:
When is the When Hope Calls premiere date?
One word: SOON. When Hope Calls premieres with two (!) episodes on August 30 on Hallmark Movies Now. From there, the show will air every Friday through October 25, which just so happens to be the day that Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas begins.
How and where can I watch When Hope Calls?
And now for the tricky part. When Hope Calls is the first original series to air exclusively on Hallmark Movies Now, which means you won't find it on regular cable. If you're weary about paying for yet another subscription service, you can sign up for a free seven-day trial of Hallmark Movies Now during the week of the show's premiere. Once you inevitably get hooked on the show, you can continue with a monthly membership for as low as $5 per month and watch all of the Hallmark movies and shows you want anytime, anywhere.
Still, there are some When Calls the Heart fans who are bummed that they have to pay even more money to get Hallmark programming (we get it). Luckily, it seems like there might be a chance that When Hope Calls will eventually make its way to traditional cable. When asked if the show will ever air on Hallmark Channel, the network wrote on Facebook: "For now the program will be exclusive to Hallmark Movies Now. We will be sure to update everyone if anything changes."
Wait, is When Hope Calls replacing When Calls the Heart?
Not at all. Think of When Hope Calls as a sister series to the already popular Hallmark show. It's still up in the air whether or not the two shows will come together for a Hallmark crossover episode, but When Calls the Heart star Erin Krakow told ET that she's open for what's to come: "I don't know if I'd call it a crossover, necessarily, but you will see a few characters making their way into When Hope Calls, and we got to meet of course Morgan and Jocelyn, who play the two sisters, Lillian and Grace, when they came to visit us in Hope Valley. So that was great, and hopefully we'll see more of that." We'll have to watch and see.
