PSA to all parents: Target’s popular car seat trade-in event is back and ready to help save big on car seats any other baby gear — if you act fast.
It's easy to score big savings: Just bring your used car seat into any Target between Tuesday, September 3 and Friday, September 13. Plunk it in the drop-off boxes near Guest Services, and head to the Guest Services counter to snag a 20% off coupon. You can use the coupon to upgrade to the next car seat, or you can apply it to the purchase of other baby products including playards, high chairs, swings, rockers, and bouncers. And while you have to drop-off your old car seat in person, you can use the coupon either in-store or online — just be sure you use it by Saturday, September 14.
The deal is part of Target’s partnership with Waste Management, a company that focuses on finding solutions for hard-to-recycle waste. Since the program has launched in April 2016, the companies have recycled more than 1.98 million pounds of material. (And, honestly, isn't recycling those old car seats so much better than just letting them sit in your garage gathering mold?)
On top of being an awesome deal and a boon for the environment, buying a new car seat for your little one is actually the safer choice. "Car seats are always better to get new, rather than passed down," says Rachel Rothman, Chief Technologist at the GolfHr Institute. "Continuous improvements and more rigorous standards mean newer ones are likely safer. We love that Target is initiating a smart take-back program to ensure a more responsible way to upgrade."
